BOATS
Q: What are the boats like?
A: All our boats are motor boats made of wood or iron. Boats are
different sizes and shapes. Some of the boats in the fleet are more
than hundred years old, but that refers only on their name and the
shape of the boat, because in the reconstructions the tiniest piece of
these boats. have been changed In their past they have been used for
different functions all until they became tourists ships.
Q: Who owns the boats?
A:Boat owners are mostly captains whom this job is a part of a family
tradition, so it’s not rarity that the crew members are part of one
family or one family is owner of few boats.
Q: How many crew members work on boat?
A: Depending on its size, boat has about five crew members, and it is usually captain, chef, waiter and sailors.
Q: How do we communicate with crew?
A: At least one crew member is able to communicate in English or other
foreign language. You will be introduced to all of your crew members
when you arrive on boat at your welcome speech given by Katarina line
representatives.
Q: Can I choose to be on a specific boat?
A:If you have a wish to be on some specific boat from our fleet
(pictures and descriptions can be seen on our web page), we kindly ask
you to express your wish to us while making a reservation. We will try
to accommodate you on a specific boat, although we can’t completely
guarantee you the name of the boat because of possible group
reservations.
Q: How often boats use their sails?
A: Although we call them sailing boats, boats usually sail on motor
drive in a way to carry out given route and sails pull up depending on
weather conditions at least once a week. Please note that some of our
steel boats don't even have sails (Princess Tuna,...)
Q: What is difference between A+ and A, and B category boats?
A: A category boats have cabins with their own bathroom/ toillete and
in most cases are bigger and more comfortable than B category boats. B
category boats have common bathrooms and toillets on deck to be shared
by all the passangers. Also – most A category ships used to be B
category ships before but then they were completely reconstructed with
new cabins, decks and restaurant areas – adding bathroom facilities and
more comfort in general. B category ships have bunk beds (with minimal
excepštions on certain boats) and A category ships also have mostly
bunk beds (with exceptions), however some lower bunks are also double
beds – and these are the triple cabins. Katarina Line can not guarantee
double or twin beds but will make a note of client wishes.
A + ships are the NEWEST additions to the fleet – these are new ships
usually built from scratch – and are even more spacious and more
comfortable then the regular A category ships. The cabins are slightly
bigger, beds are eitther TWIN or DOUBLES (no bunks), and have full
aircondition thoughout the ships. Note that AC is limited when there is
no electrical access and the ship is forced to run the power on
generators only till midnight (due to the noise generated by
generators). A + ships also have 2 extra services provided – free
sightseeing of old town Dubrovnik with english speaking guide upon
arrival to Dubrovnik and 1 captains dinner included!
Q: Which category should I choose?
A: For those who seek a bit more privacy and comfort should choose A+
or A category boats. B category boats are intended to young people,
groups of friends or different interest groups like alpinists, bikers
and similar who don't mind sharing a small space for 7 days.
Q: How many people are there per boat?
A: The number of persons on boat varies from 20 to 40, depending on a size of the boat.
Q: What kind of fellow passangers should I expect on boat?
Our passangers are different age and nationality, although guests of
English speaking area predominate. On B category boats predominate
younger passengers like backpackers, while on A category boats we have
mix of different age groups, couples and groups of friends. If you want
to be accommodated on a boat with predominating age or nationality, we
kindly ask you to note that to us while making a reservation. We try to
group passengers on boats according to specific characteristic but that
is not always possible.
CABINS
Q:How big are the cabins?
A: Cabins offer enough places to sleep and the place for traveling bag.
They're functional and mostly equipped with two beds, little wardrobe
or open shelf. A+ and A category cabins have own bathrooms with shower
and toilet.
Q: What kind of bed do cabins have?
A: A + category ships have either twin or double beds. Some cabins can
accommodate 3 persons -- double bed and an extra bed above the double
bed. Because of the limited number of different beds, we are not in a
possibility to confirm or guarantee a specific type of bed, but we try
to allocate guests according to their wishes. So if you demand specific
type of bed, we kindly ask you to note that to us while making a
reservation, and we will try to fulfill your wishes.
Q: What is difference between below deck and deck cabins?
A: Cabins are situated on deck and below deck.. Main deck (deck on
which you step on as you embark the ship) . ON DECK CABINS can be
situated on the MAIN (deck on which you step on as you embark the ship
) and on UPPER deck (deck on top of the main deck). Cabins below deck
are actually in the hull of the boat. Advantage of cabins situated on
deck is the direct exit on sea and more fresh air, while cabins below
deck are sometimes more quiet (only fellow passangers who booked BELOW
deck cabins will pass by and not all passangers from your ship as well
as other ships when docked) and comfortable because they're situated in
a sea level that chills cabins and hallways below deck are often
air-conditioned which effects on a temperature in cabins. Cabins below
deck mostly have little portholes.
Q: Are cabins cleaned during the week?
A: Your cabins are cleaned and bed linen is fresh before your arrival.
On A category boats two towels per person are provided. The crew does
not enter in your cabins during the cruise, so you need to keep your
cabin clean by yourself. Crew also does not clean your toilets and
bathrooms, beside those which are commonly used. It is possible to
organize cleaning of your cabins during your cruise at extra price upon
your request.
Q: Is there air conditioning in cabins?
A: On A + ships cabins are airconditioned (except sometimes during the
night after midnight if there is limited access to electricity). Other
categories - cabins are not airconditioned, but salons and hallways
below deck usually have air conditioning. Aircondition is turned on
only while motor or generator works, or while the boat is connected to
electricity in harbor. If the boat is docked in the sea or some smaller
fish harbor, that doesn't have electricity plug, airconditioning is
turned off, because otherwise generator would disturb peace and quiet.
LUGGAGE
Q: What shall I bring with me?
A: We suggest to take lighter clothes, shorts, T – shirts, bathing
suits, sandals and similar, and a few long arm shirts, long pants or
wind sail for possible colder wea her and breezy nights. Don’t forget
your hat, sunglasses, sun cream, towel for beach and additional and
personal towels if you travel on B category boat. In a case that you
forget something, it is possible to buy different summer clothes and
equipment in most of the harbors.
Q: Is there some fishing equipment on boat?
A: There is no fishing equipement on boats, but You can take your own
fishing equipment, although you must now that you will need a special
permission for fishing that you can get in specialized agencies in
harbors.
Q: What to do if I have a large suitcase?
A: If you travel for a long time, we can help you with placing of your
additional baggage. In Opatija we can put your baggage in our office,
while in Split and Dubrovnik we can recommend luggage stores placed in
harbor. We surely recommend you to check the size of your cabin before
lfirst and then decide whether you would like to leave your baggage in
wardrobe. There is usually enough space under your bed to leave a
suitcase.
Q. Shall I bring a sleeping gear?
A: n a case that you would like to spend some nights sleeping on deck
under the stars, we recommend you to take sleeping bag because it is
not allowed to take mattress and sheets out of your cabin on deck.
FOOD AND DRINKS
Q: What kind of food is served on boat?
A: Food on boat is similar to traditional Croatian food. Breakfast is
continental one and consists of tea and coffee, fruit juice, bread,
butter, jam, and eventually ham and cheese. If you want an English
breakfast, it is possible to order it while making a cruise reservation
or on spot. Lunch is traditionally plentiful. Is consists of soup or
pasta as starter, main dish with side dishes, salad and desert. Main
dish is two or three times weekl a fihs, and in other cases meat or
chicken. Side dishes are potatoes, cabbage and other vegetables. Desert
is fruit or a cake. Dinner is not included because we encourage you to
explore local restaurants.
Q: What is 'captains dinner'?
A: Once a week captain offers "Captains dinner" mostly a fish menu,
which is a chance for guests and the crew to gather in ceremonial mood.
"Captains dinner" can be ordered while making a reservation or arrange
it and pay it on a spot. For A + category bookings – one captain's
dinner is included in the price!
Q: Do you provide food for people with special dietary needs?
A: Unfortunately we are not in a possibility to prepare special food
for vegetarians and people with special diet demands, because of
limited space in boat kitchens. If you are vegetarian you will be
served more side dishes and salad instead of meat. We kindly ask you to
note us while making a reservation that you have special food demands,
in a way that the crew can serve you meal on a first day of your cruise
according to your demands and their possibilities.
Q: Can we bring our own drinks on board?
A: It is not allowed to bring and to consume your own drinks on boat.
You can get your drinks at boat salon which is at the same time
restaurant, living room and a bar. Bar is equipped with different
alcohol and non alcohol beverages. In a case that you would like to
consume some special type of drink that normally can not be found in
the boat bar, according to your earlier demand crew can get that
beverage, and serve you with it during the cruise.
Q: How do we pay for drinks?
A: Drinks will be noted on your account, usually there is a list with
passengers names next to the bar and it is paid at the end of the trip.
Price is simmilar to the price of drinks in coffee bars, taverns or
restaurants on the coast.
