If you are looking for a holiday in a small friendly Dalmatian town where the slopes of Mosor Mountain reach the crystal sea, you’ve come to the right place – Sumpetar. This picturesque town is located in the heart of Dalmatia , just 15 km south of central city in the area – Split, 40 km from the Trogir airport, 5 km from historical Omis and zero kilometers from the sea and one of the most attractive pebble beaches from Split to Omis.
The old village of Sumpetar is situated in the slope of Mosor on the fertile land where the old habitants grew olives for the pure virgin oil, figs as the sweet dessert and grapes for the homemade vines which were combined with the best pieces of fresh fish just caught from the sea. The traditions remained until these days and in Sumpetar you can still enjoy homemade traditional specialties or walk to the old village with rural architecture and experience the touch of the past yourselves.
If you want to make your holiday active, just go 5 km south to the city of Omis famous for its pirates and situated in the canyon of the Cetina River. Here, you can go camping in Radmanove Mlinice, a beautiful work of nature between high gorges where the river comes into the sea. This is also a place where a three hour tour of rafting ends, the one that Omis is famous for. If you like such adventures, you can go climbing on Mosor cliffs that vary from ‘’big wall’’ trails to beginner trails or decide to relax on a long pebble beach and maybe play some beach volleyball.
If you go north from Sumpetar, after a ten minute car ride you will get to the Dalmatian capital – Split, a 1700 year old town where the emperor Diocletian decided to build his weekend house (Diocletian Palace) from which the city developed. Salona, the ruining of an ancient town is situated only two kilometers away. Split has many museums, cultural and other happenings, restaurants and a great nightlife that are worthy to visit.
