KorculaThe town plan, resembling a fish bone, is very interesting. Thanks to this, the streets have plenty of sunshine in the morning and in the afternoon, whereas the strong noon sun is avoided. We recommend sightseeing of the town fortification walls and four towers (built in Middle Ages), st. Marko square where you will find sv. Marko cathedral (from the 15th century built in the Gothic-Renaissance style), abbot’s treasury (where you can find old manuscripts, as well as silver and ceramic artifacts), Gabrielli Palace (16th century) turned into the town museum with archeological collection, documents and artifacts from the life and history of the town, as well as the birth house of Marco Polo. The surrounding places are also very interesting. Lumbarda, 6 km away, is known for summer residences of Korcula’s aristocrats. Zrnovo, 4 km away, known for knight dance performances (held on August 16, on the day of sv. Roko). Blato, 36 km away, is interesting thanks to its lime tree boulevard, fortalices and houses. Vela Luka, 45 km away, known for Vela spilja Cave, an archeological site from the Stone Age. Badija, islet in Peljeski Channel, known for its pilgrimage procession held on August 2.Galerija slika |
