North Dalmatian islands
This group of islands is made up of Ugljan, Pasman, Vir, Dugi Otok(Long Island), Ist, Molat, Silba, Olib, Kornati, Murter, Prvic, Kaprije, Iž, Krapanj, Zirje, and other small islands.
Dugi Otok (Long Island)- the island of olive plantations

This islands length measures around 45km, and its width from 1 to 4km. This islands pride comes from its many beaches and coves, of which Sakarun and Telasica are the most famous. Telasica is also a natural park. There are three characteristics of this park:
On Dugi Otok there is an olive plantation called Saljsko field, which is also known as the 'olive forest' with olive trees up to 700 years old. The bay of Sakarun, a beach full of white sand,pebbled beaches and coniferous forests is truley a place to relax. |
Prvić

Prvic is an island located between Vodice and Sibenik and is very close to the mainland. The islands surface measures around 2km2. It length measures 3km and 500-1300m. Its distance from the shore is around 1000m. This islands shores are tame and ideal for swimming in their entire length. In two villages on this island called Prvic Luka and Sepurina live only a few hundred people. Most tourists look for apartments and rooms located in historical and older stone homes. Guests who stay here fell like part of the society due to its small population. One fascinating aspect to guests is the lack of automobiles of any kind on this island. Thanks to that these villages retain their relaxing aura for a pleasent and restful vacation. On such a small island with only two villages, getting about to any desired location can take only a few to 20 minutes by foot. It takes a 30 minute boat ride to reach Vodice, Šibenik and Zlarin. |
Kornati

George Bernard Shaw described Kornati in the following way; "During the last days of creation, God wished to crown his work and hence from his own tears, stars and breath created Kornati." The islands of Kornat are considered heaven for sailors, nautical enthusiasts, divers and anyone in search of a private vacation. The crystal clear sea of this region i Kornatis rich in oceanic wildlife from masses of fish to seabirds who have made their homes here. These islands are famous for their national park of the same name. One famous characteristic of these islands is the kilometers of man made low rise walls which made sections of grazing land for various domestic animals or olive trees. Getting to Koranti is easy. Tourists can take their own boats, rent them, or go with an organized group from a nearby town. There are 7 zones in N.P.Kornati which are specifically sectioned off for divers. Which one of these zones are good to reccomend can be hard to say. Every one of them has its own charm and exciting experience awaiting to be discovered. It's best to let the diving centers of nearby towns choose the best spots to go to which are sure to not be dissapointing. One of the most eyecatching parts of these islands are the cliffs of Donji Kornata( Lower Kornati), which face out toward the open sea. These cliffs have been known as Krune(krune-corona) for hundreds of years, hence getting the name Kornati. |
Murter

Murter is the starting point towards National Park Kornati so its often called 'the doors to Kornati'. Its connection with the mainland is the town of Tisno. An especially important archeological site which contains the Roman village of Collentum located under the Gradina hill, is witness to the importance of the location of this island. Beautiful sunny beaches, numerous living capacity and a wide variety of services offered here are only a small part of why Murter is one of the most visited destinations in this region |
Pag

Pag has 270km of indentedcoast and has one of the longest coastlines on the Adriatic, full of gulfs, bays, capes and beaches. This island is known for its lace, cheeze and salt. The city of Pag is the main place on the island with 20km of sandy beaches. One side of the island attains complete peace and serenity, while the other side is full of fun for the younger crowd on the legendary beach Zrce on which partying never seems to end day or night. There is also a real treat for divers on the regionof Caske. In this area there are reminents of a sunken city which stick out of the sand underwater. It is important that tourists consult local dive teams before diving due to strong currents which occure from time to time. |
Pašman

Pasman is connected by bridge with the island of Ugljan in the passage known as Zdrelac. It is also connected by ferry with Biograd and Zadar. From Zadar and Biograd this island is seperated by the Pasman straight, which consists of 10 small pearl-like islands. The sea current which shifts every 6 hours in this region keeps the waters clear and clean constantly. There are numerous mountain bike trails on Pasman as well. One of the prettiest sandy beaches is in a place called Mrljane which is known for its small swamp which has a mud thats been known to heal. |
Ugljan - the green island

Ugljan is located several nautical miles from Zadar, and is connected by bridge with the island Pasman. They call Ugljan the green island because it is entirely covered by forests, olive trees, figs, wine fields and many other types of mediteranean plantlife. A 2000 year tradition in olive plantations left hunreds of thousands olive trees from which olive oil of impecable quality and aroma is still made today. The inner hills and lower mountainous region of the island are made up of many roads ideal for hiking or mountain biking tours. An unforgetable panorama can be seen from the Venecian forts of St.Mihovil (XIII cen.). Artifacts from the Roman empire can be found here and are proof of ancient civilization on this island. Historicaly old Croatian churches, monestaries, stone architekture and vacation homes can also be found. |
